It appears Basile’s Pizza isn’t the only eatery opening on Grove. A new barbecue restaurant called Boots and Bones JC is taking over the space at 116 Newark Avenue (formerly Grove Square), according to the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District (HDSID).
Heading up the restaurant’s menu and kitchen is chef Kenny Callaghan. Callaghan worked at Union Square Cafe for eight years and was also responsible for opening New York City’s Blue Smoke. Along with restaurateur Danny Meyer, Callaghan also co-founded the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party — a 2-day festival that brought pitmasters from around the country to New York’s Madison Square Park.
Boots and Bones JC will bring some of that smokey, barbecue goodness right to our own backyard. The restaurant is the latest endeavor by the team behind The Ashford and Six26, according to Jersey Digs. You can follow Boots & Bones via Instagram or checkout their website. It’s expected to open sometimes this fall.
