There’s a new place to get cocktails in McGinley Square. The bar at Cafe Alyce (641 Montgomery) officially opened this past weekend (November 19). Although the restuarnt was BYOB when they first opened, Cafe Alyce acquired a liquor license and renovated their adjacent dining room to turn it into a full bar.
According to their Instagram post, they saved and renovated an old wooden bar from a spot in Bayonne that first opened back on November 19 of 1959. Precisely 64 years later, that bar is now the centerpiece at Cafe Alyce’s bar.
One Cafe Alyce’s special cocktails is the “clarified milk punch,” which pays homage to when the building was used as a Borden’s milk distribution center back in the 1700s.
Although Cafe Alyce holds a spot in our best brunch in Jersey City guide, the eatery launched dinner service about a year ago. The restaurant is open from 8am to 10pm daily (closed Tuesdays).
