New Jersey Shore Golf: Play with Nature

by | Sep 8, 2017

Most people would say that golf is boring and terrible. They usually emphasize the fact that you have to be really good at it to have a good time. They also say that you have to wake up before dawn to get on the course and spend half your day looking for a little white ball in the woods surrounding the area. However, this is not how golfers see the sport.

Golf has always been a perfect balance of relaxation, exercise, fun, and competition. It’s a great way to build friendships and to socialize. It all happens outdoors, so you’ll have enough sunshine and fresh air. After the game, you can share a meal or refreshments with other golfers. This sport is both mentally stimulating and physically challenging. A game of golf may not be considered physically demanding, but one round means you are moving around outside, walking at a pace of 6-7km for several hours at a time, and constantly using your mind for the many mental challenges you face.

New Jersey has more than 200 public and private golf courses and clubs for every golfer. Whether it’s your first time to play or you’re a seasoned player, you are welcome to any of these green courses.

New Jersey Shore’s 12 Best Golf Courses:

Greenbriar Oceanaire Community & Golf Course

This course is inspired by its own unique design: the pines, oaks and vegetation clearly have a “New Jersey” feel. Brian Yoder, the golf course architect, created it in a way that it begins at the clubhouse and loops around, returning to the clubhouse midway. This is a traditional Arthur Hills design that incorporates such visual cues as sand traps, trees, and grass-based bunkers to help the golfer frame the hole.

According to Yoder, the goal is to make the course interesting and fun to play at all levels so that it keeps golfers coming back for more. There are not too many forced carries and each hole offers its own cues to help with strategy. Since golf is mainly a game of angles, the angles of this course are carefully set up for success. This course is more than just a place to golf. It is a tribute to the rich relationship between Lennar and Arthur Hills, and to the grand traditions of this great game of golf.
