The Prato Bakery empire continues to grow. After taking over the former Bucket & Bay space at 150 Bay Street last year, the Tuscan bakery is now opening its first cafe in the Heights.
The cafe owners made the announcement via an Instagram post last week. The new Prato Cafe will be located at 296 Palisade Avenue on the corner of Cuneo Place. The cafe will be a few blocks away from the Choc-o-Pain Heights location.
Prato is one of the best cafes in Jersey City. All Prato locations are operated by Simone Bertini, who originally started with Il Cantuccio in New York’s West Village. Bertini then moved his bakery to Jersey City and opened at 61 Erie Street (currently home to Scram JC) before moving to 371 Fourth Street. In 2018, Prato Bakery expanded to Hoboken and in 2021 it took over the empty space left behind by Bucket & Bay.
The bakery offers a menu of sweets, focaccia sandwiches, breads, cookies, and Italian-style coffee. We especially like it because it’s one of the few places you can get a good cup of black coffee (while enjoying Italian radio/music). No opening date has been set for the new cafe.
